In Denton, about 6 miles northwest of Corinth, there is a historical landmark and museum called the Bayless-Selby House Museum. What began as a small farmhouse constructed in 1880 was transformed into a Victorian Queen-Anne style house constructed as an addition in 1898.
A portion of this house was originally constructed by the Bayless family, who continued to add to the structure as their family grew. Mr. Bayless was assassinated in 1919 as a result of a contract dispute.
The house was sold to the Selby family by his widow, Mrs. Bayless, who didn't want to maintain it after seeing such a tragic event on the grounds of the house.
Mr. Selby and his family developed a greenhouse on the property, which became well-known across the community for its roses and flower arrangements, which were frequently used for weddings and funerals.
On November 18, 1998, the Bayless-Selby home was auctioned off, with proceeds going toward a donation to the Denton Historical Society. It has since been relocated to its current location in Denton County Historical Park.
Touring the house and museum today provides an opportunity to gain an understanding of what life was like in Denton throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s. Guided tours are provided upon request and should be planned in advance, especially for big parties.

You can also take a free, self-guided tour of the property during regular business hours, which are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. In the winter, the museum is open Wednesday through Saturday; in the summer, it is open Tuesday through Saturday.
